Done with the loop

Yesterday me and a guy from Holland I met in my dorm-room, who also had a scooter, teamed up to go to a waterfall close to Pai.

The waterfall itself wasn’t all that impressive, because at this time it isn’t carrying much water. We decided to take a path that went up and behind the waterfall. After some serious climbing, we reached a spot where people who’d been there previously build some stone-towers.

Of course I’ve built one myself. After climbing back and going to our scooters, we saw a sign to the “Pai viewpoint”. It said 10km / 40min. That sounded promising, so we started in that direction.

We drove through some beautiful scenery (as usual) with some rice fields. For the first 5km the road was okey, there were some parts dirt road, but nothing to crazy. Then it got a bit dicey.

The roads now started to get really steep, which is not that much fun, when it’s a dirt-road with loose sand. Simon (the guy from Holland) actually had to get off his scooter to push it up some parts.

Luckily for me, I had a 125ccm scooter, which was able to get up most parts, even though it struggled.

It took us more than an hour to get up, but we got a great view as a reward and there were no other people there.

The way down was a bit easier, although on one really steep part the breaks didn’t do shit, since you would just continue sliding downwards, because of all the sand. Also, since the sun was setting, it was getting pretty cold. Because we hadn’t planned to be out this long I didn’t bring any long clothes. I was actually shaking while driving, because it was so fucking cold.

But we eventually made out way back and stopped at a farm, where you could eat and drink for free and at the end had the possibility to leave a donation. The owner was so nice, so of course we left a donation at the end.

After getting back to our room, I instantly jumped into the “hot” shower to warm up.

We were both pretty tired from the trip and the night before, so we just got some streetfood at the marked, which was delicious, and then had one last beer at a bar with a bonfire.

Today I got up early, because I had to bring back the scooter to Chiang Mai by 14:30. I started at about 9:15 and about three hours later I arrived in Chiang Mai. As I said earlier, it’s supposed to be the worst part, but it wasn’t that bad. Sure, there were some parts, where the street was almost non-existent and there were many constructions, but all in all our tour yesterday was much worse.

I went to the airport in Chiang Mai first to get a flight to Krabi for tomorrow, but to my surprise the tickets were more expansive at the airport than on the internet. So I booked a flight online for just 78€, which is pretty cheap I think, especially considering it’s actually two flights, first to Bangkok and then to Krabi.
